Description
A very fine rare Haida or Tlingit ceremonial feast spoon dating from the early to mid 1800’s. The spoon is finely carved from two pieces of mountain goat horn that has been steamed and bent into shape. Very thinly and elegantly carved in the round with fine abalone inset eyes. The crest figure is a chiefly raven. Complete with a museum custom metal display stand. Note how the carving on the bowl is naturally worn in places indicative of its great age. The spoon came from the Allan Wardwell collection, the famous author and scholar on Northwest Coast and Eskimo art.
