A very rare fine important large Northwest Coast Haida miniature painted war canoe circa 1880. This wonderful large graceful canoe features beautiful flowing classic form with an expertly painted split avian motifs that are painted in classic black formline pattern. The seats are lashed into place with split spruce root. The hole through the one seat would have once housed a sail. . The fine subtle painted details are done in great old and original pigments. Fine tool marks evident throughout and great beautiful aged patina to the wood.Very nice impressive size, this fine canoe will make an excellent addition to anyone’s collection. A museum quality example, Early canoe models are exceedingly rare and this is a fine top shelf example.
