Description: This early elegant ceremonial rattle, represents the shell of mussel, a common find in the tidal areas of the Pacific Northwest. The rattle is an early example and even has a n old Native repair showing many generations of Ethnographic use.

Provenance: Jackson St. Gallery, Seattle Wa ( purchased Aug31,2006) , Gary Bell Vancouver

Reference: Tlingit rattle collected by Emmons(1869-1890) . Similar construction and styling.
