This very fine large early Nuu-chah-nulth basketry covered green glass covered bottle dates circa 1900. The bottle is very finely woven with an amazing stitch count of 30 plus stitches per inch and features multiple complex pictorial elements of two set of crossed flags (one appears to be the union Jack ) , a steam ship , multiple bird forms and canoes. This amazing basket is woven from split cedar bark and the complex designs from natural dyed bear grasses. Simply one of the best of the best type of basket of this form to be found anywhere!
