Description: A heavy yew wood fish club shaped in the form of a swimming seal. Hole drilled in handle for cordage which would have wrapped around the wrist to prevent the club from flying out of the hand when in use. This form of club would have been carried in the canoe to help dispel the halibut after being dragged into the boat. The seal form was thought to bring good luck to the hunting party as the seal was a very efficient fisher. Nice old patina from lots of native use. Comes with a museum quality custom metal display stand.
Provenance: European private collection Belgium
