Description
A very rare early Tlingit hand carved silver bracelet circa 1880-90. The bracelet has been attributed to important early Tlingit carver Jim Jacobs also known as “Silver Jim ” or “Jim The Jeweler” . Accompanying this piece is a formal analysis done by Christopher Smith , MA (2019) , Doctoral Candidate (UBC 2022). Very finely carved from coin silver and expertly depicts a Killer Whale and seal crest figures and floral designs at the clasp end. This bracelet was made to fit a man’s or larger ladies wrist and would have been worn by a high ranking member of Tlingit society as a display of their crest lineage. These are very rarely found outside of a museum setting. Condition is exceptional for its age.
