Description: A detailed early portrait like figure of white sailor. Note the attention to detail with hair style. Drilled for suspension. Would have been worn by a Haida shaman . Inked accession number on reverse. A rare early Haida shamans amulet dating from the mid 1800’s. Carved from antler or bone the image depicts a Euro American captain or sailor. These type of figures appeared on early Haida pipes and individual figures done in argillite.
