A very fine well carved Northern Northwest Coast Tlingit or Haida carved and painted model canoe dating from the late 1800’s. Highly desirable with high prow and graceful flowing design .Painted in classic original red and black avian design crest elements. Note the balance of design when viewed from the underside. Complete and original example still retaining its original thwarts. Displays beautifully. These models were made by the canoe builders and carry the same form and attention to detail as the full size examples that once paddled the waters of the Pacific Northwest. Made as both play items for the Native children and sold to tourists in the 19th Century.
