A great early Kwakiutl totem pole circa 1920 from Alert bay. The totem is carved by one of the early masters and a carver who was greatly influenced by Charlie James, Mungo Martin and Arthur Shaughnessy. The totem is carved from a single piece of yew wood and depcits Dzunkwa holding two children captive standing on the back of a kneeling shaman. Great early original pigments. Nice substantial size standing 16 1/2″ tall.
