Fine Rare Kwakiutl Indian Cedar Totem Pole Blunden Harbour George Walkus Circa 1920

A wonderful well carved and expertly painted yellow cedar hand carved totem pole. The totem is attributed to master carver George or Charlie Walkus who came from the remote village of Blunden Harbour on Vancouver Island and was active in the very early to mid 1900’s.  The totem features a Thunderbird  biting as copper, diving killer whale, seal and a raven transforming into a human at the bottom.  Painted in classic Kwakiutl pigments of red, green, blue and black. The totem is in good condition, with a small repair noted to the bottom of one wing only visible from the backside. Note the deep hollowed out imagery and fine flowing forms . This fine example by a highly desirable artist will make a fine addition to anyone’s collection.
