Description
A wonderful well carved and expertly painted yellow cedar hand carved totem pole. The totem is attributed to master carver Arthur Shaughnessey and dates from around 1930. He carved t items for both ceremonial use and for sale and worked alongside Charlie James, Mungo Martin . Painted in classic Kwakiutl pigments of red, green, and black. The totem features a Thunderbird and seated human figure. Reference Carvings and Commerce by Michael Hall and Pat Glascock page 113 illustration #84 shows an example of this artists work housed in the Burke museum Seattle. This fine example by a highly desirable artist will make a fine addition to anyone’s collection. There is an inscription on the back made by a young collector.
