A wonderful older Northwest Coast Kwakiutl hand carved and painted yellow cedar Raven rattle circa 1970. The rattle is deeply carved and finely painted in great classic original pigments of red, green and black. The rattle is carved by a Robert Whonnock who was from the village of Rivers Inlet on Vancouver Island and was trained to carve classically. . He was one of three artists who created and carved the Coquitlam Centennial totem in 1967. He worked with Lloyd Wadhams Sr and John Neel to create this masterpiece which stands at Dogwood Pavilion Grounds in Coquitlam BC. A very beautiful clasic rattle that will make a fine addition to anyone’s collection. The rattle is in excellent condition. The rattle was originally purchased at the Snow Goose Gallery in Seattle in 1978. Signed in pencil on the handle and comes with a beautiful sculptural display stand.
