Fine Haida Argillite Totem Pole Circa 1890 by Paul Jones (1847-1929)

Artist: Paul Jones (1847-1929) originally from the village of Tanu then settled in Skidegate.

Date: Circa1890-1900.

Dimensions: 7 ¼” T x 2 1/8” x 2”

Description: Attributed to Haida artist Paul Jones whose distinct carving style makes his works easily identifiable. This fine early pole has interesting imagery and nice proportions throughout. It features deeply well carved imagery with each creature delineated from one another. The totem features a bear with a salmon hanging out of his mouth,  a seal looks through his ears, with a bear with raised paws at the base.
